Most of us have a pretty active inner voice that’s willing to jump in at any moment with a running commentary about what’s happening in our lives.

I have a confession to make. I rarely watch competition shows like American Idol, America’s Got Talent, The Voice, or even Dancing with the Stars when they are broadcast.

In a recent blog post, I wrote about a weekend I spent with my oldest friend. In that article, I talked about how we share the same Perceptual Style and how that contributed to the deep connection that we have had for 50 years. But there is more to that connection than shared Perceptual Style.

During a recent interview, I casually mentioned that growing up, I often didn’t feel like I belonged in my family. The interviewer immediately identified with what I said and shared that she had experienced similar feelings in her family as she was growing up.

A common question we hear is, “What's the best romantic match for each of the Perceptual Styles." The assumption is that a person can select someone with a Perceptual Style that is most compatible, thus forming a never-ending, forever-loving relationship.

The daily news is filled with stories about people misbehaving, being self-centered, and hurting each other. It sells. Probably because reading and watching something negative subconsciously makes us feel better about our own lives.
