What Are You Thankful For

For the last 26 years, my husband Ricardo and I have hosted the Casa Vega Thanksgiving.  In the beginning there were three families who gathered to spend the day together.  Over the years those three families have grown to include adult children and now grandchildren. And more relatives and friends have joined along the way.  We average 40 to 60 people for dinner.  The feast is comprised of contributions from everyone.   The friendship and love we all share is amazing.

As you can imagine, it can feel a little bit like joyful chaos at times.  But the day works so well for all of us because we each contribute our natural strengths.  Some do the detailed meal planning, some do meal preparation, some do the room setup (we create one really long and winding table that courses through the dining room and living room), some do clean up, etc.  We share it all, relying on each person to do the part they enjoy most, that they are best at. I am so very thankful for my friends and family.  Thankful for this once a year gathering where we celebrate gratitude and friendship and love.  And I am incredibly thankful that each person brings their natural gifts to share.

It’s all too easy to overlook the natural skills that are your gift to others.  I hope you have some moments this Thanksgiving to reflect on not only your own natural strengths, but those of the important people in your life.

What a wonderful world it is that we all bring something different to the table.

What are you thankful for this year?  Please leave a comment!

Happy Thanksgiving!
