Connections matter more than you think!

Connections matter more than you think

I believe our increased awareness of impatience is a symptom of broken connections. Let me explain…

Before the pandemic, we were all immersed in many connections in our daily lives – home, work, friends, hobbies, etc. We juggled a lot of them.

Then with the pandemic came isolation. Suddenly we were alone, stuck in our homes. All those connections we had flowed in and out of on a daily basis were dramatically reduced to just a handful. Sure we tried to keep connections going with Zoom calls and phone chats, but it was a lot of work.

There were no gatherings to look forward to, or casual conversations at work to keep our connections thriving. The number of connections we had began to shrink.

Then the isolation lifted, and we returned to social gatherings and the workplace. We were in a hurry to reconnect, but during all that isolation, our connection “muscles” had atrophied. Impatience set in. And intolerance crept in too.

There’s an easy fix to broken connections

The first step in reclaiming connections is to start with connecting to yourself. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Friendship with one’s self is all important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world.”

So, take that first step now! Remind yourself of the many things you do well. Surprise yourself with a new awareness of your potential.

Connections are critical to your well-being

Research shows that people who maintain connections with friends and family are happier and healthier. Those connections help you build your confidence, provide support, and help you reduce stress. Not only that, studies show that having strong connections is good for your physical health – people with strong relationships have less risk of premature death!

Life is meant to be lived fully. Nurturing your connections to yourself and to others is a really important part of enjoying your life!

Until next time, celebrate your strengths, call a friend, and laugh a little every day!
